Learn to ride for adult beginners, adults returning to cycling after a break and families who want support with teaching kids to ride well..
At Breaking Cycles CIC, our approach to Learning to ride is supportive and individualised to every participant.
Are you an adult who has never learned to ride?
No problem! We can show you the basics and give you space to practice. It can take a little longer to start feeling confident as an adult learner, so patience and practice are very important!
Did you ride a bike in childhood and want support getting going again?
Even though bikes are still pretty much the same as they were when you were a kid, your body has probably changed a bit, so re-connecting with cycling is a bit like upgrading the software! We often see adult returners full of child-like joy as they confidently ride away from just one session!
Are you more interested in your kids learning to ride than having a lesson yourself?
We love working with parents, carers, aunties, uncles, grandparents and older siblings who are teaching little ones to ride. When you pick up some useful methods from our instructors, you can support them in their cycling journey yourself and share the joy of that first taste of freedom!.
What if I don’t have a bike?
We will bring a small selection of bikes to the Park. Generally, we aim to bring one in each size. You can just turn up and see what we have brought on the day, but if you let us know you’re looking to borrow something in advance, we can make sure that we’ve brought exactly what you need!
Do we have to wear helmets?
Wearing a helmet whilst riding a bike in the UK is not a legal requirement. However, it is a very good idea and its actually something that our insurers require us to do. We will have some helmets with us that you can borrow on the day if you don’t have your own.
What is Big Bike Revival?
This service is free for you to access. It is funded by Cycling UK, using funding from UK Government. The UK Government, Cycling UK and Breaking Cycles CIC share aims to:
-Encourage people who don’t cycle to have a go.
-Encourage people who don’t cycle much to cycle more.
-Encourage people to replace short car journeys with cycling.
-Ensure that the bikes people are riding are safe and fit for purpose.
-Educate people about safe and correct cycling strategies.
Cycling UK will email a short survey, which only takes a few minutes to complete, to participants shortly after you attend an event and around 3 months after that. These surveys inform data which shows the impact of our work and justifies future funding for these free events. If you need more encouragement to provide an email address that you check regularly and fill in the survey, Cycling UK send out free gifts to everyone who fills in both surveys!
